Surviving the Writer's Strike
As many shows will be going to reruns/hiatus, I offer the following suggestions. My qualification to do this is that I don't bother to actually follow any TV shows right now because I prefer to spend my time on Other Things.
So, here's a sampling of Other Things for your perusal:
So, here's a sampling of Other Things for your perusal:
- Take a bubblebath.
- Stretch. Seriously. Take a few minutes, listen to your body, and start stretching whatever feels tight and unhappy. Breathe deep.
- Make love, alone or with a partner.
- Trade shoulder rubs with a friend.
- Start a walking program. In my case this is also known as "tripling my commute time" aka taking the bus. Actual time on the bus is about the same as driving, but there's also the mile or so I spend walking between bus stops and various destinations during the day. This adds up. (Also, your employer or city may offer incentives.)
- Rub your feet. Soaking them first is nice, and rubbing in peppermint lotion can be nifty, but those aren't necessary. Your feet will appreciate the love either way.
- Read. Read books, read the news, read and comment on your friends' blogs, read other useful & interesting stuffs.
- Visit the library. Grab a comfy chair and read magazines you'd never waste money on. Check out the reference tomes. Or, use the website to reserve books that Amazon has recommended that you're not sure you want to buy. (Locals: King County Library Site.)
- Join or start a book club. This could be a local group or as a Yahoo! or Google group.
- Go to a meetup or munch.
- Meet friends for dinner. Or coffee. Or lunch.
- Netflix. (That's how we got through Sex & The City ;)
- Organize a movie night.
- Puzzle Pirates. It's a multiplayer online game, it's fun, and a lot of it is free. Let me know if you want a referral (not needed to play but gives you & I money :)
- Tropico. Yes, I am El Mucho Macho Presidente, oppressor of peasants. Had it for years and still not tired of it.
- Listen to music. Music is a great adjunct to many of the above activities, but it can also just be fun to sit and listen to. Or to dance with.
- Post on LJ.
