I had a blast browsing in bookstores today. Popped over to the noon service too. (Why is it that my eyes *read* the Rite I responses, but my mouth *says* the Rite II ones? Sigh.)

Janet prefaced the service with "today we celebrate the life of Alexander Crummell", and talked about Rev Crummell during her sermon. I found it interesting that during Reconstruction some Southern Episcopal Bishops wanted to split black congregations off into a separate organization. The group Crummell founded to fight the split is now known as the Union of Black Episcopalians. I hadn't known the Episcopalians considered splitting over race; I knew some congregations left over the ordination of women, and some want to split over the ordination of gays & the question of holy union/gay marriage. Good to know. I also liked "stubborn humility in the face of time".

Yes, I got some books, including 101 Reasons To Be Episcopalian. Hey, it includes quotes from Linda, the priest I first met at St Mark's, and Paul, the friend who first suggested I go to St Mark's.

I also dug around in emails and LJ and wrote some copy that I'm suggesting Chris add to his website. We'll see. 90% of it is probably crap. Anyway, time to go start futzing in the kitchen - I'm making taco pasta tonight.
