windstorm update
Last night the 520 eastbound backup nearly met the 520 westbound backup. As I would generally prefer to noodle away on the net (or even work) rather than sit in my car for hours, I arranged to have dinner near work with
skydancer and kept working away.
Then a coworker came by. "Kate just called me to say our parking lot is flooded and she barely got out you better get going or you'll have to spend the night!"
Well, I wouldn't have spent the night. I'd have called
skydancer and asked for a ride. But nonetheless, I got moving. And I did (via a circuitous route) get the batterymobile out of the parking lot. I also realized that some of the water flooding our parking lot was coming from Lk Washington Boulevard...so I headed up the nearest hill, aka Bellevue Way, and hid out at Starbucks untll
skydancer got out of the football gridlock. Also talked to Dad; his house in Shoreline had lost power, so he was bored, so he called me. :)
And I surprised myself: I went to the mall in December. Of course, the fact that it was nearly deserted helped. I have replaced the wallet I ruined in the last storm and had yummy pork chops with
skydancer at Nordstrom's.
Got home about 9:30pm. The phone rang about the time I got my shoes off...
dianthus requested a ride home from the airport since her plane home had been canceled. So back I went; by then the traffic was fine and it really wasn't raining much. Occasionally the wind tried to push us off 405, but only occasionally.
Of course, just as I was picking up
dianthus, Jesse called to let me know the power was out. We stopped by a drive-thru to get
dianthus something warm for dinner; back home, I took a bath by candlelight (gas hot water heater, yay). Unfortunately I didn't sleep well...I could hear branches and so on falling.
Got up at 6:30 so I could drop
loba at a park-and-ride. Ended up dropping her at the S Kirkland one near work...and my office building was dark. So back into Bellevue I went. The mall was dark, but the area near Overlake Hospital is up. I ended up having breakfast at the new Marriott Courtyard on NE 8th and 110th. Which is where I'm typing this, using the 1-day-free wireless. The Bellevue Library has power too, but it doesn't open til 10. And according to our IT guy, work has (temporary) power at least...so I'm off to the monthly all-hands meeting (if they're having it). I'm still tired, but at least I had planned to take a half-day of vacation today anyway...
Hope all is well with y'all! No trees falling on houses!
