Very different, and very close

This started as a comment on
jenkitty's post about how she, a witch, felt attending mass at St Mark's Episcopal cathedral.
Only this time, I looked up the quote. Yea accuracy.
Madeleine L'Engle's book The Young Unicorns is about a family, mostly focused on the children. The youngest child is discussing the character Canon Tallis with his friend, a Rabbi. At one point he asks the Rabbi whether his grandfather, a minister, would think that Canon Tallis is all right. The Rabbi says, "He and your grandfather represent very different disciplines, as your grandfather and I do, and as Canon Tallis and I do. And yet we are very close, very close."
I've found that she's right. Among those who seek truth, the differences often are a matter of tools and symbol, not substance. Very different in working. Not so different in the work. And so, very close.
