Moving on ...
Feb. 18th, 2002 11:04 pmI'm on my 4th time through this song; it's called "Stolen Car", from Springsteen's 1980 album The River.
The verses are about a the breakdown of a marriage. I don't relate to that so much as to the sense of isolation the verses convey. And I relate to the sense of precariousness the chorus creates.
I'm driving a stolen car
Down on Eldridge Avenue
Each night I wait to get caught
But I never do
The verses are about a the breakdown of a marriage. I don't relate to that so much as to the sense of isolation the verses convey. And I relate to the sense of precariousness the chorus creates.
And I'm driving a stolen car
On a pitch-black night
And I'm telling myself
"Gonna be alright"
But I ride by night
And I travel in fear
That in this darkness
I will disappear
