I got to sleep before 5am. I think I was asleep before 3am. Getting up at 7:30 was still hard, but doable. I seem to have an inverse relationship between sleep and food: if I sleep out, I don't need to eat for hours after waking. If I don't sleep long, I need food almost immediately. This morning I was nauseous from the moment I woke up, so I downed a PBJ on the way to church. (Yet another reason why I'm Not Catholic. Not eating before mass sounds good in theory but in practice it doesn't always work for me.)
I joked with Jesse on the way that the reading reminded me a bit of a madam drumming up business. I try to get ideas like that out of my system so that I can focus on communicating the more serious stuff during the reading. I wish I could substitute "Wisdom" in for some of the "she"s, but such liberties are not allowed. At least I didn't have three people all refererred to as "he" this time. :)
Nora Gallagher was the preacher today. She related a story that a priest had told her of how she'd visited the Catholic Cathedral in Durham, which houses a shrine to St Cuthbert. The floor by the shrine had a line, laid in tile, in the floor of the cathedral. According to a sign nearby the line had been laid so that women would know how far to keep back from the shrine, so that the sinfulness of women would be kept back from the holy shrine. The priest told Nora that she'd felt hurt by the line. The priest believes that when such lines are laid, God weeps; and when they are broken, God dances.
Turns out this Wednesday's movie will be Dogma. I'm tempted to go...
