[livejournal.com profile] byrdie wondered what the "sin of Sodom" was...here's some links that discuss that and other Bible verses that have been interpreted as being about gays or lesbians.

It can be hard to keep them straight sometimes, even though it seems simple on the face of it.

An example I've given in the past is that just because I feel intimidated doesn't mean that anyone's actually trying to intimidate me. If someone is short or snappish, it doesn't mean s/he doesn't like me; s/he might be having a bad day.

But memories are tricky things. Researchers have found that they can plant memories into people's minds that never occurred. As we age, as we process our past, we can easily confuse how we felt with what actually happened.

Yesterday, something a friend said touched on an old (but not old enough, it seems ;) memory. I blurted out lots of hurt, frustration and tears. Many hours later, I realized I'd said that I'd done something that I'd hadn't. Oops.

What I'd said was emotionally true, but not factual. I've sent a clarifying email. I don't necessarily regret what I said - what came tumbling out shows me something I need to deal with. But I don't want to leave people with the wrong facts, either.
