Discovered an interesting article on common
geek social fallacies in
kendaer's LJ. No, these do not apply just to geeks.
I've had problems in the past with myself having GSFs 1, 3 and 4. I am still prone to falling into #3 because friends *are* important to me - especially chosen family.
GSF #3 is especially fatal combined with GSF #4.
I grew up with GSFs #3 and #4, to a large extent, applying to family: you must give anything where family is concerned and family of family is family. This is something that eventually became very difficult for me. I did not see saying "no" or even "I'm not comfortable with this" as an option, because to *question* family duty is the same as stating that you see family duty as *optional* - which is akin to peeing on the President. You Just Don't Do It.
