Cartograms

A cartogram is a map where states or countries have been resized according to a population (or something else other than sheer topographic acreage). For example, this site shows the US 2004 presidential election results by population or electoral votes. And this site shows maps of the world by population, gross domestic product, child mortality, people living with HIV/AIDS, spending on healthcare, and energy consumption.
