Where were you when....
Mar. 30th, 2004 06:55 pm1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (22/11/1963)
Wasn't born yet.
2. When Mt. St. Helens blew (18/5/1980)
In Seattle. I think I heard about it on the news, before school. We looked for the cloud but didn't see it. I was disappointed.
3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (28/1/1986)
I think I heard about it from my folks. I was in college & working 3/4 time, so I didn't watch TV much.
4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (7/10/1989)
I was channel-flipping and saw it. Wow.
5. When the Berlin Wall fell (7/11/1989)
I remember sitting at my folks' house reading about this in the local paper. I didn't trust it. Not *sure* it to go back up but the way it came down just seemed too...easy.
6. When the Gulf War began (16/1/1991)
I was working late, in a cube at Lincoln Plaza. A friend was listening to NPR. The bombs were dropping, and I couldn't believe it.
7. When OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco (17/6/1994)
I was channel-flipping...and it was on every channel. So I turned the TV off.
8. When the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was bombed (19/4/1995)
I heard about it from coworkers. Disbelief, shock, and wondering why on earth would anyone bomb Oklahoma City?
9. When Princess Di was killed (31/8/1997)
I was in bed, in my beloved 2-bedroom apartment at The Cambrian, with my then-lover. The phone rang and it was our other lover, in tears.
10. When Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold opened fire on their classmates at Columbine High School (20/4/1999)
I first learned about reading news sites online. Being a misfit myself, I confess Columbine was more comprehensible to me than the Oklahoma City bombing.
11. When Bush was first announced President (7/11/2000)
Again, I learned about this online. I hit 5 major news sites before I believed it.
12. When the 6.8 earthquake hit Nisqually, WA (28/2/2001)
I was in class at LWTC. I did *not* dive under a desk, since the desks seemed inadequate to hold the computers. I did move away from the windows and anything else that might fall on me (like, oh, the computers).
13. When terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center (11/9/2001)
At home in bed during the first; a call from my mother-in-law got us out of bed to watch the second tower fall.
14. When Columbia disintegrated during re-entry over Texas. (1/2/2003)
Jesse saw it on Fark.
Wasn't born yet.
