It's so local to Washington State that others may not get it at all...and it's good...
Edited to add: Background: Washington had a "blanket" primary, where everyone could vote for whoever they pleased. Among other things, this meant the independent voters were doing a good job of making the political parties irrelevent. The Ds and Rs struck back with a court challenge; we have have an "open" primary, where people have to choose a party for partisan races.
There has been some ongoing strife at the parties reasserting themselves... mutterings of billing the Ds and Rs for the cost of running the primaries, doing away with *all* partisan races for local and state positions, implementing run-off voting, et cetera.
Note this would probably go down better if the parties did a better job of selling themselves. If they are, they've been managing to miss me by a mile.
