Thank God Seattle summers are short.
Yesterday it was above 80 for a good part of the day. AC* kept the house 10-15 degrees cooler than outside, at least until 8pmish when we opened windows. It was also warm enough that my appetite didn't really kick in; by 10:30pm it was cooling off and I was crashing in a big way from being overheated and not eating. Gatorade and food helped, but I was still feeling icky. A cool shower and I felt - well, still sick at my stomach, but able to sleep. Still above 70 in the house though, so we left a few windows open. Including the bedroom's sliding glass door....
...so of course the birds woke up me about 6am. Guess they're better than mowers or a weed eater. Gave in about 6:30 to close windows and turn on the AC. I also put in laundry before it gets warm again. Maybe I should make scones, too.
So, yes, summer is definitely here. Sun glare and heat and sweat and nausea and not sleeping. Right. At least it's relatively short ... anyone have experience with a portable AC with attachments for sliding glass door instead of window?
*We have wimpy Seattle residential AC. To actually keep the house below 75 regardless of outside temp would require replacing the current (working) furnace with a heat pump that wouldn't fit where the furnace currently resides, so a heat pump would also require adding ducting and electrical so we can put in the garage OR remodeling to enlarge the utility closet .... it's the throwing away a working furnace that has prevented me from doing it so far.
