* this will create a never ending cycle of icon glee.

Kirk from the original Star Trek, resting a head on one of his hands in classic "I have a headache" mode. The caption: "I'm surrounded by morons..."

I saw this icon on my friends list and loved it. I've had so many days at work that feel like this...I don't use it often, but it's still shiny.

An image of God the angry all-powerful. Caption: "Don't make me come down there!"

This is the default icon for the [livejournal.com profile] dark_christian community. I grabbed it because it makes me smile. I occasionally use it when posting as moderator. :)

A crop from a Dykes to Watch Out For cartoon by Alison Bechdel, specifically from "This Brief Transit". The usually brash and confident Sydney (center) has been diagnosed with cancer, and is being cuddled by her lover Mo (left) and the cats Virginia & Vanessa. I use this when I am feeling down and when I'm feeling loved, so this has multiple meanings here.

I got the icon from [livejournal.com profile] dakiwiboid. The caption, "My gracious silence", comes from a moment in Busman's Honeymoon where Lord Peter is pacing, upset, while his newly married wife quietly waits for him to sort it out. Abruptly he stops and addresses her as "My gracious silence" - quoting Coriolanus, but also in reference to how she is waiting. The line was also used in the BBC adaptation of the previous book Gaudy Night; the image is from one of the adaptations starring Edward Petherbridge as Lord Peter and Harriet Walter as Harriet Vane.

So, after all that explanation of how it's a reference to a reference to a Shakespeare quote, I see the icon as being about giving a beloved the space to do what they need to do while still being there for them - which is more the Lord Peter version :)

Anthony Stewart Head as Giles in tweedy, early-Buffy librarian mode. I call it "librarian", and I use it when I'm feeling learned, bookish, or perhaps in authority figure and/or exposition mode. ;)

From [livejournal.com profile] nerweniel, showing Mary McDonnell as President Laura Roslin from BSG, caption: "and she only reveals what she wants you to see" from the Billy Joel song. For me, this icon is all about work and being a manager; there are things it's simply not appropriate to show, and others that simply aren't relevant.
