News item, Eastside Journal:
My thoughts:
1) Could be a school legend (see also: urban legend) being reported as fact. Just stating the possibility.
2) It's possible, perhaps even likely, that the parent(s) in question had tried this method of 'weight control' and hence don't see it as a Big Deal. Hell, I had it suggested to me more than once, and yes, I tried it.
3) What people do to themselves in the name of conformity to the 'Lord of the Flies' culture that is high school...frightening. Even more frightening, it's not just high school.
REDMOND -- Last year, a select group of girls at Redmond High School would gather together during the day, go into the bathroom and vomit.Full article.
What the girls were doing was fairly well-known, but most people kept quiet about it.
``The administration was aware of it, the students knew it, parents knew about it, but nothing was done,'' said Jaynee Cadrez, a counselor who works at the school through a contract with Youth Eastside Services.
Parents were contacted, Cadrez said, but they ignored the warnings. ``They said, `Too bad, our daughter gets straight A's, she's a cheerleader. It's not a concern.'''
