I saw the last Buffy

jenkNot happy that it's ended, necessarily...but it ended well. I am glad I watched eps 1 and 2 before tonight's ep.
It ended Buffy's story, in the sense of the "one girl in all the world". Now there are lots. Joss can continue to tell lots of stories in his world. It'll be interesting to see how having lots of Slayers affects Angel next year.
Loved the "What are we going to do tomorrow?" chat and "The Earth is definitely doomed." Loved "Buffy? Not that smart." Loved bunnies as a focus for mayhem. Loved the spell, and that there's a *reason* these potentials have been hanging around (no, whining does not count as a reason). Loved that Dawn didn't whine. Loved the pierced tongue. Loved Willow-as-Guardian. Loved Angel's reaction to Spike's soul. Loved Spike's reaction to Angel showing up. Loved "What was the high point of our relationship - when we broke up or when I killed you?" Loved "That was nifty."
It seems Joss wants us to know that yes, Angel is the only man Buffy loved...except, probably, Xander and Giles. And them she doesn't see in a sexual way. Hm. Could be that she & Angel had a chance before she closed down...by the time she met up with Riley and Spike she didn't let herself connect that much with anyone else. And she *thought* she was connecting with Riley.
Loved the "I'm not done yet". Gee, what a surprise - from age 15 to 22 she's had, essentially, two full-time jobs. Any wonder why she *didn't* have time to figure out, say, romantic relationships, future plans, or life outside a "for now" space? Buffy reminds me of myself in college - I worked 24-30 hours a week to pay for tuition, I went to school full-time, and I carried a full load of household duties (grocery-shopper, cook, various cleaning/maintenance chores, and laundry) in partial exchange for room & board. Oh, and unlike Buffy, *I* needed to SLEEP. People wonder how I managed not to have sex until I was out of college. I wonder how they managed to have sex *in* college. Well, I suppose if I weren't living with my parents it might have been more likely.
Part of me wishes there was a bit of a 'what happened next' at the end. An example:
But of course, this would force Joss to make these decisions now. Between Angel and the possibilities of movies/whatever, there's lots to be said for leaving things open.
Oh, and the publicity about Spike being on Angel next year makes his death fairly ... um ... a non-event, for me at least. So far.

Dawn becomes a Watcher, gets a GED and is accepted at Berkeley, studing magic, demonology and history on the side with Giles and Willow.
Robin becomes a Watcher and begins teaching near the Cleveland Hellmouth.
Willow, Giles, Xander, Faith, and Buffy form a new Watcher's Council that Kennedy bankrolls.
Giles opens an antiquarian bookshop that sells various metaphysical supplies as well. He also curates the new Watcher's Council Library.
Willow completes her studies at Berkeley, majoring in occult history, demonology and computer science. She opens a company specializing in computer security. She and Kennedy are both inseminated, thanks to sperm-donor Xander, resulting in 3 kids and Kennedy becoming a full-time mom. One kid turns out a slayer, another has considerable magical talents, and the third grows up to play shortstop for the majors.
Xander gets another construction job and rooms with Buffy, who is taking classes in business. They spend time together as buddies, then as lovers. They open a construction business near LA. Buffy runs the office, Xander manages things on-site. Buffy dates Angel occasionally. Xander and Angel aren't thrilled, but understand.
Faith, in a complicated series of events, ends up working for the CIA.
Clem and Andrew open a Waffle House in Vegas.
But of course, this would force Joss to make these decisions now. Between Angel and the possibilities of movies/whatever, there's lots to be said for leaving things open.
