jenkI miss my comfy keyboard.
I've got the old (win98, 40M ram) laptop perched on my knees. It's on the net and has a teeny keyboard, teeny even compared with the new (xp, 256M ram) laptop's keyboard. Meanwhile the new laptop just finished setting up Tropico and getting Word running again. I haven't put it back on the net yet.
At least the cat is no longer walking on my chest.
Most of today was spent resetting the new laptop to Something That Works: backup data, restore factory hard disk config (4 CDs to load), uninstall this, disable that, copy data back, install Word. I'm pleased to say the new notebook is now working like a champ, which means the problems that had me ready to throw it through a window yesterday were almost certainly software-related, not hardware. Consequently I'm installing software selectively - I don't plan to install anything else today. The notebook does now talk to the my 19" monitor and ergo keyboard now, and I've gone through another 50 pages or so of this book. That's the important part. I installed Tropico because I can run it windowed and switch to it when I'm not sure about a wording. I've also got Links purring in a corner of the screen, mostly for fun.
The book? Yes. I've been reading it with an eye to continuity, grammar, and readability. I've got Rick's mom down to one first name (instead of three) and Rick and Mimi both down to one job (instead of two each). And So On. I ended up adding 2-3 new pages at the end of the last chapter, but so far it's just editing. I want to hit page 200 or so before the con starts, since I won't be doing any work during the con. Also won't be at the spot this weekend.

jw1776 regards mac'n'cheese as 1) noodles, 2) velveeta, 3) sliced hot dogs. When I use up cheddar by making a cheese sauce and mix that with noodles, it's not mac'n'cheese. It's scalloped noodles.
Wish I hadn't been so distracted by computer problems yesterday; Sue stopped by, and I'm not sure I was real coherent while we talked. At least, not the entire time. Talking about our dads was interesting. Between Sue and Third Place yesterday was pretty social.
