I've thought before that if Google were local it might pull me out of my "retirement" from testing. But this really takes the cake...

In contrast to the editorial team of up to 16 who supported Yahoo News, Google had built its news site with three people. It was one employee's personal project, built over a weekend on a whim, according to the company. Have you ever heard of the hard disk imaging tool Ghost? In late 1992 I built something like it, based on a friend's idea, overnight. We used it at a test tool for file systems. I tweaked it some more, another guy tweaked it more, and a year or so later it was rebuilt to use data compression and better speed. Of course none of *us* thought to market it. That's why we're testers, not marketers. But I do miss doing things like that sometimes....
