So today [livejournal.com profile] jw1776 gets me out of bed to go visit the 24-hr Fitness place on 140th & Bel-Red Road. He's heard they have a 2-for-1 special and thinks it would be cool to work out with weights again. Since I've missed the weights too, we go.

Having been to several fitness clubs before, I was expecting them to 1) try to sell us a "fitness program" 2) assume our goals would include weighing 150 lbs or so 3) take FOREVER to mention price. I was not wrong. I'm not sure Jesse was expecting it; apparently his only previous "club" experience was working with the personal training students at LWTC. Anyway, Jerri was fairly nice to us.

So anyway, we sign up for 3 years, pre-paid. Since Jesse's been changing his diet & exercise, the program provides Jesse with 5 visits with a personal trainer to get some input on this. I don't bother with it now. I'm considering hiring a trainer for a couple sessions to coach me on my form -- after I'd gotten used the place and figured out most of what I'm doing. But, I want to think about it.

Tonight I get home from running errands and there's a message from the gal we worked with today. Apparently there's a problem with the paperwork - she's having trouble "putting through" the stuff we signed and we owe, oh, another $200. Oh, and I'm getting the personal trainer time too. Can we come over tonight to fix it?

Nope, not now. Jesse's at the supper club for the county Libertarians, and I know he's going to want to talk with me before spending more money. I also know I'm going to want to be *very* clear on what the additional money is buying us. I *am* a bit put out that they want us to fix their screwup. We've got a signed contract. Why should we change it?

But, no big deal; I put together the new lamp I bought for the den & settle in with Tropico & some reading.

The phone rings. Some man asks for Jesse. I answer that he's not home right now, can I take a message? Then he asks if it's me, and I say yes. He identifies himself as the club manager. I tell him I got Jerri's message, but we can't come by tonight. He starts explaining how they need us to come in because there's a problem with the paperwork...

I hang up. I don't even remember if I told him any more than that. Yes, I am pissed. I see no reason why this should be an emergency for *me*. I don't see why they can't let the current contract stand. I am strongly tempted to cancel the entire membership and check out the Y. Hell, all I *want* is a weight room and a pool, and I can go to the city's public pool for pretty cheap...
