We are a strange society. Grown men attend a football game in subzero temperatures, strip to the waist and paint themselves the colors of their chosen team, chanting and dancing in their seats, and we shrug and call them "fans." But a man dons chainmail for a weekend among fellow medieval-fantasy fans and we call him dysfunctional. Presumably intelligent women strip naked and irradiate themselves in a box to darken their skin, and we shrug.
