As Beth put the despatcho on the fire tonight a song from waaay back started running through my head. I'd sung it at numerous church services and retreats over the years.

We are one in the Spirit
We are one in the Lord
[ repeat above lines twice more ]

Chorus:

If it seems monotonous - it is. It's one of those hymns that's as much a meditation aid as anything else. Anyway, by the time I'd reached the chorus, I'd changed it from "Christians" to "family", because "Christians" didn't really describe the group we had. But I couldn't get the song out of my head, either. So I ended up adapting it as follows:


We will walk different roads
We will walk side by side
[ repeat once ]
And no matter our differences
In peace we will abide
And they'll know we are family by our love by our love
Yes they'll know we are family by our love

Not bad for spur of the moment...
