I am sure the catholics (and ex-catholics) will be amused that I have just discovered this.....

Praise to my Lord for all created things,
     especially our brother the Sun,
who brings us the day and brings us the light:
fair is he and shines with a great splendor.
O Lord, he points us to you.

Praise to my Lord for our sister the Moon,
     and for the stars,
which he has set clear and lovely in the sky.

Praise to my Lord for our sister Water,
who is very useful to us and humble and precious and clean.

Praise to my Lord for our brother Fire,
     through whom you give us light in the darkness;
he is bright and pleasant and very mighty and strong.

Praise to my Lord for our mother the Earth,
who sustains us and keeps us,
     and brings forth abundant fruits
and flowers of many colors and grass.

Only...where's our sibling Air? ;)

[Edit: Turns out it's in the longer version in Following Francis, along with other things not included in the short version in Breakfast with the Saints. Will update later....]

They may see the good you do as self serving.
Continue to do good.

They may see your generosity as grandstanding.
Continue to be generous.

They may see your warm and caring nature as weakness.
Continue to be warm and caring.

For you see, in the end, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.

Saw this on a plaque in a Signals catalog. Thought it worth hanging onto....

And an old prayer attributed to St Francis that that Buffy's season finale reminded me of:

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light
Where there is sadness, joy

Oh Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love
For it's in giving that we receive
And it's in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it's in dying that we are born to eternal
Amen
